Remember the last Mathematical! video (before the channel was taken down) where they asked fans what we thought about Marceline and Bubblegum “getting together”? Many people called in, but the creator of the video was fired and we never got our voices heard.
This is a fan-made response to the removal of the “Mathematical” video. Hopefully this offers some closure to those of us who called in on the original video. I really hope Frederator sees this and reconsiders what they did by shutting down the discussion.
Thanks staplesponge and everyone else involved in making this!
Wow, pretty impressed that people pulled together and created the video. Some great responses from callers who voiced their opinions — a lot of which echo my own.
I said it before and I’ll say it again: Adventure Time is not obligated to cater to the fans and have every right to stay true to the original concept of the character’s they’ve created. As a fan of the show, I will support and watch the cartoon regardless. Personally don’t think Marceline and Bubblegum would work as a couple (maybe exes or unrequited?), but I would support same-sex representation in Adventure Time. It’s incredibly forward thinking and all I can say is “about time” that there was finally some LGBT representation in North American cartoons (and not in a satirical/stereotypical way). I just hope that people out there are listening.
And Finn would get over it; he loves them both they’re his best friends.
If we “think about the children!” then what better lesson to be learned than acceptance, understanding, compassion, and love? There’s no point hiding the fact that homosexuals exist and are real people… teachers, classmates, coworkers, parents, family, friends…
An article about this was also posted on autostraddle, for some more [reading fun].
